Originally from Scotstoun, I've always been interested in the history of that area.

Became interested in Albion MC about 5 years ago when I was in a bus station in Fiji and virtually every bus was an Albion, some even with "Made in Scotland" on them, printed below a wee enamal saltire.

Any photos would be appreciated, got this one from Mitchell site, and like all photos on here, its depressing how much its changed.

I've got four books on Albion:-

Albion Album: 1899-1999 by Robert Grieves is a pictorial paperback, with photos of lorries, buses and early cars with brief descriptions. Mostly black and white photos with a handful of colour shots.

Albion of Scotstoun: A Century of Cars, Trucks & Buses by Paul Adams & Roy Milligan is also a pictorial book, but this hardback has much more information on the vehicles produced.

Sure As The Sunrise: A History of Albion Motors by Sam McKinstry is another substantial hardback, but this book concentrates more on the history of the business and the people who ran and worked for Albion.

The Illustrated History of Albion Vehicles by Nick Baldwin was part of the 'Illustrated History' series on commercial vehicles published by Haynes in the late 1980s; again photo-based.

I had read one of those books before (Sure As The Sunrise I think) but will check out the rest.

Did the old railway line at the back of the works serve the plant or was that more for the shipyards?

I know that some passenger services ran along that line.

Another couple of pics of the Albion including some of the railway back in the day, I don't know what the station was called any ideas?
Looks like there was possibly a link from the Albion workshops to the rail exchange sidings yes?

How about posting up a bit about this place as I don't know too much about this Scottish engineering gem

This was taken last year in South Street. What happens here, is it just a company that bought the rights to the name, or does it have anything to do with the 'real' Albion ?

It is the same company basically, and was formed in 1993 after a management 'buy-in' following the collapse of Leyland DAF in 1992. They now specialise in in axle and driveline components (always a strong point of Albion), and are now part of AAM (American Axle & Manufacturing).
