From todays Evening News

Boozed-up scooter mum gets road ban

A MUM has been banned from the roads after she was caught drink-driving whilst on a mobility scooter.

Patricia McHugh, 26, was stopped by police in the motorised wheelchair in Greenock town centre at midnight.

Officers found carrier bags full of lager cans draped over the handlebars and she was later found to be three times over the drink drive limit.

McHugh, who was given an interim road ban when she appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court, told officers she had borrowed the scooter, normally used by disabled or elderly people, from a friend's uncle to get home.

The mother-of-four, of the town's Kenilworth Crescent, admitted driving the vehicle while unfit through drink and drugs.

The alarm was raised after CCTV operators spotted McHugh weaving across pavements on October 9 last year.

Her solicitor said she was seeking treatment for an alcohol problem.

Sheriff Colin McKay deferred her sentence for reports and disqualified her meantime.

The Problem With Music by Steve Albini

http://www.petdance.com/actionpark/albini/the-problem-with-music.html

Steve Albini is a very respected engineer and producer who has worked on lots of great records. In this essay he explains the economics of recording  and touring music. It will burst the bubble of any aspiring musicians.

It is very true to life. I can remember recording with a drummer from a hit band back in the 1980's. This guy had a couple of very recent number 1 singles and couldn't afford a new jacket.

Musicians need to spend more on jackets and less on drugs

US Has Mandela on Terrorist List

Nobel Peace Prize winner and international symbol of freedom Nelson Mandela is flagged on U.S. terrorist watch lists and needs special permission to visit the USA. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice calls the situation "embarrassing," and some members of Congress vow to fix it.
