|
|
It was last seen in George Square as part of the Christmas Decorations. The Christmas Tree has been trimmed down and is currently in the possession of the Bullwood Project who are currnetly working on it turnin it into the World's Largest Caber. They intend to precent it to the City of New York from the City of Glasgow during this year's Scotland Week (formerly Tartan Week).
The men from Bullwood are all volunteers who have formed a self-help group to encourage people with some disability to return to creative and active life.
A couple of weeks after the Festive Season was over and the Christmas decorations were taken down the Cristmas tree this year wasn't going to be disposed of in the usual maner. It was destined for a building in the South West of Glasgow for work to begin turning it into a Caber.
In premises made available to the Bullwood Project work has been ongoing for the last 4 week to etch a variety of symbols on the caber.
School children from schools across Glasgow will visit to add their names to the Caber.
Earlier this week Lord Provost Robert Winter visited to lend his support for the project and add his name.

What an absolutley fantastic idea.
Helps the community and spreads the Glasgow brand...
Can you imagine the speech though...
Brought you a genuine scottish caber but your daft laws said it needed to be burnt as it was an enviromental risk...
Or does that only apply to normal folk _________________ MY FLICKR

Sorry if i confused you Alex lol ...
My sister stays in Canada and we went a visiting some of the family in the states...
We took some scottish keyrings made from genuine scots pine and they were confiscated.
placed in a bin for destruction and we got a severe warning about bringing foreign plant life into the domestic united states.
Bear in mind these things were lacquered to within an inch of their life...
But big Frank The Yank was having none of it...
How ya gonna sneak this thru customs .... _________________ MY FLICKR

Under the cloak of the Diplomatic Bag.
The project has the support of the Scottish Government and they have put them in contact with the relevant authorities in the States and particularly New York.
Arrangements are in place to get it shipped to The US and cleared through customs. Once it has been presented and displayed during Scotland Week it will go on a tour round the Highland Games that are held throughout the Eastern Seaboard.
It is then intended to place it in a museum where anyone visiting can view the large gift from the citizens of Glasgow to the citizens of New York.
Thanks for your comments Cybers and sorry to hear about the difficulty you experienced. Sometimes it is hard to understand regulations that are out in place and the real reason for them. _________________ I had a dream today

I was just a little concerned that these guys were going to put in all the hard work making this Caber for some junior jobsworth at the other end to decide no.
Still think its a smashing idea as anything that can improve relations between 2 countries never mind 2 cities has to be a good thing.
Hopefully you will be able to provide some pics of the ceremony for us to have a wee look at when it happens. _________________ MY FLICKR
