Hello, just new here.

Anyway, strange question maybe, but does anyone know how deep the duck pond is in Dalmuir Park??

It's iced over pretty solidly and I've been walking about on it, so was curious.

Thanks.

Welcome to Urban Glasgow Douglas

Don't have a clue how deep the pond is but sure it won't be that deep but wouldn't risk playing on the ice as any contact with cold water could lead to difficulties.

Good advice Alex, the ice would need to be 5 foot thick in a 5 foot pond for me to venture on it.

You try telling that to all the numerous curlers playing on frozen ponds and Lochs all over the country right now (of which I'm one).

I'm just curious about it and I'd be able to find out how thick the ice is and judge it from there before even contemplating anything.

I probably wouldn't go for a game/practice, partly due to time and the fact that the snow would need to be cleared off the surface, but if I do, I'll take my thermals and spare clothes, etc, don't worry.

Also, to my past, I've swam in the Clyde and done various boxing day dips, so I know all about cold water.

Curling you say ....
I am not a light guy so the last thing i would want to do is lug a few big bricks oot there with me regardless of how shiny they were !!!

Never understood the game but its something the ladies are good at i think

This is the kind of story that has put me off going onto frozen ponds etc since I was knee high to a rocking chair...

Aye on a lake without checking how thick the ice is first. This is why I'm trying to find out BEFORE.

Also, as an aside, the Lake of Menteith is between 6 and 7 inches apparently and is deemed to be perfectly fine by the authorities.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that in the 18th and 19h century, 6 inches was enough to support a horse and gun carriage.
Wouldn't like to try it though!!

If you went in there then yes, it WOULD be serious!!
