First look at plan for BBC’s old HQ
THESE are the first images of a multi- million pound hotel and flats development
planned for BBC Scotland's former HQ in Glasgow.
City councillors were today due to decide whether to approve the controversial
plan, which has sparked a flood of objections.
QMD Glasgow, a consortium of three developers, wants to build an 85-bedroom
hotel, 180 flats in four blocks and three townhouses on the site at Queen Margaret Drive.
The demolition of the existing BBC buildings would result in a historic property on
the site by Charles Rennie Mackintosh being restored and converted into a bar, reception
area and hotel accommodation.
Grant Aitken, managing director of consortium member Esk Properties, said it was
hoped the hotel would open by 2011. But local community groups insist the West End
is already at saturation level with clubs, pubs and other nightspots.
More than 60 people have written to councillors demanding the application be turned down.

looks ok - the more modern buildings that are currently on the site are an eyesore and that looks like a huge improvement. _________________ Gies a gonk ya dobber!!

Go-ahead for BBC site hotel, homes
A hotel and flats to be built on the site of the BBC's former HQ have been
described as an asset to the West End.
Glasgow planners have approved a scheme to build an 85-bedroom four or
five-star hotel, 180 flats and three townhouses on the site in Queen Margaret
Drive.
The hotel will incorporate a "gem" of a Charles Rennie Mackintosh building,
which was part of the old BBC development, and a bar that can hold up to
400 people.
More than 60 residents wrote to the city council demanding the application
be turned down, insisting the West End is already saturated with pubs, clubs
and other nightspots.
