If you like your industrial photography you should check this out

There are some great pictures of steel works and forges on this site. Most are from France and Germany, many of them are in the style of Bernd and Hilla Becher who were pioneers of art industrial photography with their pictures of cooling towers, gas holders blast furnaces, coal mines etc which detail their design and compare the forms of each type.

Reminds me of my visit to the integrated Steel Mills at Scunthorpe when I worked with Corus - sadly we were told strictly no camera's or we'd be thrown off site.

If you are able to view the flickr page the crane shots stand up to being seen in the original size.

Problem is as a country we outsourced almost everything to the third world or emerging nations and now we sit in a manufacturing wasteland whilst these countries economies expand. That and the added pressure of being seen to be green means sites like Dalziel in Motherwell or BP etc at Grangemouth are now counted almost in single figures in Scotland.

It's the legacy we will leave as a generation and shows our expertise at nothing when we outsource even call centre work to places that cannot understand basic English as the spoken word.

My next one on the to do list is St Fergus at Peterhead but it has the highest Police presence known to man with armed response units on site as its the mainland natural gas holding and processing plant and accounts for 25% of all gas production in the UK.
