Hi folks this is my first thread on here tho have posted many times on the Reminiscences of Springburn site being a Springburn boy and still live in the area . I work as a train driver at Queen st and thought i'd post a few pics of the work thats going on in the station . As far as we were led to believe it was just the tunnel that was being dug up and the concrete bed being re laid would last for at least 60 years ,but on looking out the bothy windows on to the platforms the other day it seems as if they intend on re modelling the station (track layout )at the same time as the tunnel work.Still not sure whats going on regards the work .No doubt some on here will know but will update with a few pics and info when i find out . Posted the same pics on the Springburn website and when they were clicked on to en large they turned upside down .Apologies if the same happens here . Here goes

Will certainly take more of the station . At the moment  the tunnels lit up like an airport runway. Also has scaffolding erected around the tunnel mouth but wont get anywhere near to take pics .But will try and get a few snaps of the station and update when i can .No doubt network rail will produce one of those time lapse videos through time (no pun intended) or at least put some photo's on twitter or facebook.

I'll second that as an avid railway user and Borders Railway campaigner.

Makes sense rebuilding the platforms to make use of the redundant space on the western side of the station

Not wanting to start a fight or anything but are they perhaps not just digging out for the electrification ? I mean the infrastructure and the actual electricity has to get up and terminate somewhere.

Not that I know sh!t about trains

there off to the left. That would give them another platform for a 3 or 4-car
EMU/DMU in that area.

Madness NOT to so this.

I understand this work is to increase the length of platforms three and four.

James, I think the more recent photo in this link shows one reason why it's not being done - the whole station seems to be being pushed westwards towards 'old' platform 1, and judging by the line taken by the foundations for new platform 2, new Platform 1 track will be moved nearer the Dundas Street retaining wall.
