Sound Control/Turnkey go into Administration
After many months of speculation and rumour it has been revealed today,
30th April 2008, that Sound Control, including Turnkey, have gone into
administration.
At least 10 stores have already closed and unfortunately 100+ staff have
been laid-off. At this time we have no further information, but what is quite
clear is that any new or existing orders are unlikely to be fulfilled.

Jeez I had a close escape as I nearly placed an online order with them for a new audio card yesterday. _________________ "This is like deja vu all over again." |

Music store is forced to shut West End shop
THE UK's largest musical instrument chain is to close one of its Glasgow
stores after going into partial administration.
Scots firm Sound Control announced that its Otago Street branch, in the
city's West End, will shut, alongside nine other stores up and down the
country.
The closures in Glasgow and Kirkcaldy alone resulted in 19 job losses.
As part of the nationwide cutbacks, a further four jobs were lost at the
chain's flagship Scottish store in Jamaica Street.
The Dunfermline-based firm, a favourite with musicians for a generation,
blamed competition from the internet for the closures, adding that its
online and telesales operation would also be scrapped.

They have been going downhill for years. Overpriced, poorly designed web site, nothing in stock.
They did get more competitive with pricing recently but you just couldn't get the stock.
They did have some excellent staff, especially the guy who runs the bass department in Jamaica Street.
It will mean a big shakeup of the industry. The vultures are already circling, I received emails from some of their competitors last night offering help and support and to sell me anything I might need.
Some of the directors resigned in February according to companies house so they must have seen the writing on the wall. _________________ "This is like deja vu all over again." |

Almost no chance. Most of the stock still belongs to the suppliers who have been busy sending their agents in to do a stocktake and attach labels saying "property of XXX". _________________ "This is like deja vu all over again." |

2 inches sounds like 1U. I will grab one next time I am in a server room. _________________ "This is like deja vu all over again." |
