Please keep all comments about Last days of the Old Gorbals images in here folks.
Don't clutter up the main photo thread with comments (they will be moved
by admin into this thread) so I'd be terribly grateful if you'd save us mods
a bit of work...

Streapadair,
Thank you so much for posting that massive photo colection,
It is without doubt the best post this site or any other Glasgow site has ever seen.
It has also made me cry, It is an area I remember well as a child and
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to do it. _________________ evening all
Many thanks for scanning and posting these. I had no idea so much of the old
Gorbals was still there in the early 70's. I had assumed it was all swept away in
the mid 60's.
I forsee a few past present pictures on the horizon, as long as thats ok with you?

Fire away, James, you're seriously good at it. The contrasts will be stark.
The pc started playing silly buggers before I finished the post, maybe I was lucky to get away as much as I did, so there's a few more still to come.
Chief Inspector - sorry, I've only just noticed you posted before James. It's very gratifying to know that the pictures mean so much to someone, and I had hoped that a former Gorbalite might see them. It's a pity I hadn't gone round with a camera 10 years earlier, before the place was half-dead, but better late than never I suppose.

streapadair.
Maybe an idea if you post 4 or 5 pictures in one post - makes it a bit easier for
people to quote and remark on a particular picture. It really doesn't matter how
many posts you make either.
*EDIT* - and by all mean edit your first post into more managable bite sized
posts if you like.

Fantastic set of pictures... thanks so much for posting them. I'm shocked at the difference between the pictures and from what I know as the current Gorbals. The Citizens is a surprise... and did I see Sher Bros in one? _________________ Now coming at you with 95% more significance, 1% less salt and virtually fat free!
(briefly) ignoring the tenements, it's the shop fronts that do it for me - individual businesses going about their business, although 'shaheen' seem to be buiding up a chain
thanks for this post, probly never seen before on t'interweb!
EDIT - so busy lookin at the buildings, what a treasure trove of vehicules! who remembers the cars in the phots? _________________ hey, d'ye think it's ootside yir in?
