1960s Charing Cross Demolition for Ring Road/Motorway

I'm currently researching the Charing Cross clearances that took places in the 1960s to make way for the Inner Ring Road/M8 motorway. It appears that a lot of beautiful architecture, thriving shops and tenements were demolished, destroying a community at the heart of Glasgow.

I'd love to hear from anyone that was personally affected by this - if you or your family had your house or business demolished and were rehoused, please send me a PM.

Thanks for reading,

My Dad stayed on West Graham Street to the left of Stow College towards Charing Cross.

He said their building was riddled with dampness and the place was a dump. Obviously Charing Cross, though not that far away, was and still is a nice area.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but they should've built a ring road round the city or a massive tunnel.

I'm sure there's a whole thread dedicated to this somewhere. Try the search function on here or a search engine (sounds simple, but it works beautifully). Forum Index -> Glasgow Development & Demolition
