Our hearts and thoughts are with the victims and families of this horrific accident.

What a horrible, horrible freak accident.

My partner made it safely home. She was one of only two people from A+E to answer her phone immediately, but was told not to come, as there were too few injured.

She was lucky - passed by this spot just a few minutes earlier. Six dead. fcuk me. I work around the corner on Argyle Street. People ran out from from surrounding shops to give CPR, direct traffic and phone 999. These folk are heroes, one and all. As for the fecking idiots that stood to take pictures to put on social media...don't get me started.

GCC are switching off the lights tonight after police consent.

Quite right IMO.

Couldn't agree more....  Heartfelt condolences to those families, friends and loved ones of those who lost their lives and the injured.
norrie

A terrible tragedy, 3 members of one family were killed
Our thought's are with the the families with lost loved ones

According to the TV tonight the lorry ran up the left hand side of the pavement from the Goma, its a miracle that there were not more fatalities and injuries
John

A Terrible tragedy especially at this time of the year, I know its no consolation to those who lost loved ones and I know someone personally who did, but it could have been much much worse if it had veered right and ran through the square.
Heartfelt condolences to all the families and folk involved.

However, still no answer as to the cause of the fatal accident. Was the driver drunk, had a heart attack or what it should not take this long for an answer?

Drunk... dunno where you got that one from.

Quote:
The driver is believed to have suffered a heart attack at the wheel.

He is seriously ill in hospital.

Five others are also still being treated in hospital.
clarkfield

I'm with you Dave, I think a retraction is due from Targer on this one.
Bob.
Targer

No retraction required it had to be one or the other reason and there was no answer from the media/press. It was Just a question not a statement of fact.
clarkfield

It had to be "one or the other", i.e. Drunk or heart attack.
Did you not consider a malfunction with the vehicle.
No - drunk or heart attack.
You are sad.
Targer

Not so..was I not right...It was a heart attack.
cybers

From the morning of the 23rd that statement was used almost all day. It may not have been a heart attack it could well have been an allergic reaction, Hypo from diabetes or a brain haemorrhage but I think it would be safe to say if it were drink related then that would have been the festive headline, after all first thing they do if your admitted to hospital after an RTA is "Take Blood" I am sure with the fact it was known to involve fatalities so early on this would have been a top priority if the driver was unresponsive.

It is also wrong to speculate while there is still an ongoing investigation into the accident.
Fat Cat

If they didn't have these guys working 12 hour shifts....

However,  thoughts with all involved.
Hawick_1987

The driver had a seizure. It is not known whether this was a recurring illness or whether it was induced by other means.

Please spare a thought for this man also.

Just came across this photo...

Eyewitnesses say the driver was slumped over the wheel yet this pic seems to show him sitting upright just before it hits the hotel.
Beano

Conspiracy theories now flying everywhere on social media about this tragic accident
Stevie

someone i know mentioned that he'd heard that it was an assassination made to look like an accident

nut jobs, it was imho, a tragic accident.
clarkfield

It's unbelievable what can be done to photographs these days.
Methinks, Bob.
cheesylion

I'm not trying to court controversy, simply asking for your opinion on the picture.
cybers

From a still its difficult. But lets assume the driver has already hit the taxi. he would have been thrown forward then like gun recoil the natural motion is to move in the opposite direction therefore would appear to be sitting up normally.

Simple physics with a high price from start to finish.
streapadair

The cctv sequence here, cybers.

(Dunno how to embed.)
Stuball

What a curious point of focus for a CCTV camera... it's focused on the entrance to the George Square christmas event but not pointing at it, so pretty much useless.

Still, it was a tragic accident and we'll just have to wait for the report to be made public.

I think i would be asking how the evening times got hold of council cctv footage from their ultra secure new building where they swore this sort of thing never happens.

Is it from the chambers camera though ?

It could be from street view who are based in Blochairn.

Doesn't solve the riddle of how the times got it though....
