Advice required from mods

Hi there
My mum and have given me a loan of a very old book Glasgow ancient and modern it was published in 1872 and is long since out of print. There are some interesting drawings of old Glasgow in it which I think many people here would like to see. Would it be ok to post them? I don't want to fall foul of any copyright issues, but I'm guessing they will be out of copyright by now.
Cheers

As far as I can tell it has not been in print since 1872 publisher was John tweed of 11 St Enoch square.
The artist, publisher and author will be long since passed away. I know music copyright runs out after 50 years not sure about book copyright. But the book is 145 years old now so surely copyright has run out?
They are all black and white drawings. Showing buildings such as the merchants house in Bridge street the university in high street and many many more, also some maps. This book really is a gold mine, and these are must see pictures.
Delmont St Xavier

If memory serves me correctly, you are free to post as copyright on general publications runs out 100 years after the published book has been last printed.  (There are different rules in certain circumstances but I'm pretty sure you are fine to go ahead and do it).  I used to work with the original John Smith Bookshops and John B Wylie (part of the same group) and in some areas it was 50 years from the date of last publication.
