Any ideas for a day out/night out in Aberdeen?

S'ma birfday today and my partner is taking us to Aberdeen. I've tried the likes of tripadvisor etc. for some ideas to keep us entertained, but they are next to useless i.e. 'Try the park. It is green and stuff...'

I trust you lot - marginally - so any ideas?

You need to visit union st cemetery and the torry battery but other than that the place is horrible.

The Harbour?

Footdee ('Fittie', just past the south end of the Esplanade) is well worth a visit, but the other 99% of the city is a bit short on charm, long on grey granite and oil money.

What about Union street gardens before it gets transformed.
Duthie park  might still have the greenhouses that you can walk round.

Don't listen to those doubters, Aberdeen is a great place and one of the few towns in Scotland that you might see a bit of engineering still being done.

My list of things to do would be to start at the station which still retains it's character then round the harbour and check out the oil rig supply vessels and fishing boats, the Aberdeen maritime museum on the north side of the harbour is excellent, head on down to fittie brilliant wee place, then along the beach and sea front to the funfair I think it still has a wooden roller coaster if you are feeling brave. Union street gardens is good and you should see it before it's ruined.

For eating and drinking the Prince of Wales is a really good pub and if you are feeling brave the Grill on Union St is a step back in time, the Ashvale does a cracking fish tea and their jumbo haddock has floored many a good man.

Enjoy your trip

Thank you for all your suggestions. We only had one full day and one night before we headed back to work - here are some quick snaps taken on March 14th/15th;

Stayed in Skene Apartments on Rosemount Viaduct - great alternative accomodation suited more to a longer staycation.

Did you manage to get up the Torry Battery seen between the lighthouse and the Harbourmasters offices (Sail like building) in your second photo ?

Unfortunately not    We had planned to but the daylight was fading and we decided on the city centre tour instead. It's on my list for next time Cybers

yer not wise to do it in the twilight ... do it early morning before the neanderthal hairy beasts are awake even the Bosch would have turned back if he saw those girls

Best for last again. A man cycled up to a large commercial black bin, jumped in with a rucksack, stayed there for 5 minutes and jumped out and cycled off calmly quite the thing! Only in Aiberdeen - fit like!

He was having a s**t !

He was picking up all the stuff nicked from car parks through the night ..
No one questions people putting stuff in bins and no one questions feckers climbing in to retrieve them either and if the polis did ask he would say he was having poop like what was said above.

Though he might just be homeless and went hame for his lunch
