Auchinleck's Barony CollieryPassed this many many times on a road that runs parallel to it.
Today i decided to go there as i had a little time to kill.
Seems the whole thing is a memorial / monument to the Barony Colliery which closed under the thatcher regime.
It opened in 1908 and closed in 1989 and now the whole place is a picnic area.
To the left of this tower is a small Headstone with an inscription shown in the second photo....
After i seen this one i noticed a smaller one further down the road in auchinleck itself but never had the time to check it out.... something for another day i suppose.

Go down the A77 towards Ayr take the main kilmarnock dumfries cut off heading for Cumnock before cumnock is Auchinleck and you can actually see it from there .
Think it might be an ecuse for a picnic this weekend.
