Mitchell Library Thursday 8th October 6.30pm - Free
In a shamless attempt to cash-in on Sir Cliff and the Shadows' 50th Anniversary gig in Glasgow on the following night, we present AWOPBOP 2 - the rerun.
We'll be looking at the rock'n'roll tours that played Glasgow in '50s and 60s: starting with Bill Haley and ending with the Beatles in 1964. We'll take in Jerry Lee Lewis stoppping a riot, then starting one; the Headteacher who banned her pupils from seeing the Beatles; gigs in unusual venues and the Daily Record being outraged.
As before we'll be using Bob McLeod's rarely seen backstage photos, the Mitchell's collection of sheet music and newspapers and recollections and memorabilia donated by those who were there.
AWOPBOP 1 played to an SRO audience, so be there or be square. Jiving allowed!
