Bath Street

Guys

Sorry if this is the wrong place.
Saw photographs of crash in Bath St 1967 and noticed a building next to the old disco Joannas.  Did a little research and discovered it was the old Orthopaedic and rheumatic Clinic at 279 Bath Street on corner of Holland Street which used to be a church.
Does anyone have any shots of it as I cannot find anything.

Regards

Hi Jim,

I used to live across the Street from the building, and watched it destroyed by fire in the mid 1980s.I'm not too sure if I took a photo of it before it was set on fire, but I certainly took one of Joanna's/Albert Dance Hall before it too was demolished shortly after.I shall have a look, and see if I have an image.

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi Chris

Appreciate your help.

Hi Jim,

I had a look through my photos, and unfortunately the church is not included amongst them.I have one of the Albert Ballroom/Joanna's as the demolition was starting in 1983,but nothing else.

I did, however, find a photo of the church on a rival Glasgow forum,by googling "joannas bath street",so you could try that as well, and you might find the same image (in connection with a 2010 post).

The building was originally,by the way,the St.Stephen's UF Church.

Regards,
Chris

Ouch - that looks a nasty crash.Hope everybody was okay.

Joanna's,as Beano was speculating, was the basement discotheque in the 1970s and early 1980s,underneath the disused Albert Ballroom. My abiding memory of visiting Joanna's,was the exceptionally nasty bouncers on the door, who delighted in winding-up and provoking the customers.

Just to correct my last (inaccurate) post, the church was called ST.MATTHEW'S,not St.Stephens.Apologies.
