October 5th 2008 - a good day for Clyde shipping

Only saw this thread for the first time today, so here are some pics.

October 5th 2008, the day the QE2 made last visit to the Clyde and a day before a big military exercise started around Scotland.

First, here's the QE2 making her way to Greenock for the last time...

... and a shot of the funnel and a lifeboat as the ship sat in the Ocean Terminal...

Now for some of the the other big fellows that were hanging around for the start of the exercise...

Tonnerre (French) with one of the French Army pumas it was carrying sitting on deck

HMS Bulwark swallowing a landing craft

Thats the council dredger! They bought a couple of these things a few years ago to assist cleaning the floaters out of the river. I usually only see them in action on and around the River Festival
AlanM

more a skimmer than a dredger.

British Waterways have some of these too, you can sometimes see them in action on the canal
Alex Glass

Has anyone read George Parsonage's book

Every man needs a hobby/ obsession etc. whether it's sitting in a shed burnin' wid, rebuilding a classic motorcycle or building a model railways in the attic... this is mine, well at least one of them

It's been a work in progress for a while now due to other projects taking precedence but the task is now firmly in hand. She's been twice across the Atlantic hence a full top to bottom refit is in order. A new engine and some sailcloth and she's good to go. Again!

PS: Yes I'll be sailing her up the West Coast through villages and towns before you ask

New hardwood coach house roof beams covering the saloon and sliding hatch

Roof beam for the fore peak towards the bow with space for the mast and forward hatch. Still waiting to be primed and given several coats of varnish before fitting

Nice.

You'll be on your holidays, and we'll be doing the rounds?

I'll say, how did you get her? Did you save your money?

cybers

Can we come ?
Fjord

Of course but no honking up at the slightest hint of a wave or you'll be keel hauled in an instant then thoroughly pumped within an inch of your life... although not necessarily in that order.  If you can make Tea or Coffee that'll count in your favour.
cybers

Wit you mean a full refit and no KLIX machine ... get a grip...
I also have great sea legs its on dry land they let me down....
