Buchanan Street in the 80s

I'm having real trouble picturing what the top end of Buchanan Street looked like before they built the Concert Hall/Buchanan Galleries.  All I can remember (I passed through that way with my dad about every weekend for much of the late 80s) is that it was somewhat down at heel, and that there was a place called the 'Commercial Hotel' (I think), which I assumed was a den of ill repute.

Anyone have or know of any photos of that area from that period?

Aye, I had seen those ones before.  Some of it seems a wee bit familiar, but I just can't fit it all together in my head.  There was some change between the 70s shots there and the late 80s when I would have been aware of my surroundings enough to notice things.  For example, the street layout and pebble-dashed nightmare to the east of Buchanan Bus Station isn't there in those shots, but it is in my early memories.

Ideally, there must be photographs of Buchanan Street looking north, to see how the area with the statue of Sven Goran Ericsson looked before the new buildings went up.  Or one from the bus station looking south.

We used to park the car in the parking garage at Cambridge Street, then go shopping down Sauchiehall/Buchanan/Argyle.  Possibly after lunch at the Pancake Place....  We passed that corner literally all the time, but the new surroundings so often block memories of the old.
