Canon Ixus 70 Any good ?

Considering buying one of these little blighters as i do not want to be humfin a SLR around with me when i get to Egypt...
Was just wondering if anyone on hear uses/used one not worried about the price more of the quality and feel of the bugger or should i just go for the nasty samsung option.

Will be handy to have a handbag sized option for the odd wedding too ....

Been through most of the Review websites and i just am dubious to the impartiality of some of their results... palms crossed with silver blah blah...

Looking for an unbiased opinion on this little compact if thats possible ...

The Canon G9....

I have one.  It is really handy because it is so compact, but I have been a bit disappointed with the sharpness of some of the shots.  It depends on what you want it for.  I use it as a handbag camera, so I don't miss anything.  I do however notice a marked difference between the quality of pictures taken with the ixus, and those taken with my Canon D350.  In my view it also has two disadvantages.  The optical zoom is only X3 and it is not possible to set your own aperture, so no control over depth of field.  But, as I said, it is tiny and the quality is reasonable and it does have a high iso setting for low light.

You might like to use Flickr to look at shots taken by that particular camera model.

The price seems to have dropped a lot too since I bought mine.  I saw one today at 140 dollars in the US.  I am sure I paid almost the same in pounds last summer, and that was tax free in Singapore!

G9 is an excellent choice but a little pricey for something that will undoubtably end up as monument says a handbag camera As other than holidays i have no need for it .... It will be a wifes thing lol

Just looking for something that will capture the moment holidays etc well without drawing attention to itself.
Toss up between this and its Casio counterpart...
Price is reasonable but its all about size .... TBH gotta fit in the shorts pocket...

Ricoh make a good compact camera which has some pretty advanced features similar to some SLR functions

I can highly recommend my Nikon Coolpix P5100. I think amazon are doing the best deal on this one. It's got a lot of the settings an SLR has and if need be you can buy an adapter ring and wide angle lens or filters very cheap from ebay.

I have just bought a Panasonic DMC-FX35 as a walk about camera. 25mm wide angle lens and HD video. I love it and I am a very fussy git.

RRP is £270 but you can get it online for less than £200. I bought it from Jessops online as they let you pick it up from your nearest store next morning.

Another recommendation for Panasonic.

Leica optics sealed the deal when I was getting a camera for the old man.
