Canon Project 1709 - Photo Hosting (Rebranded Irista)

Have any of you used this photo hosting service from Canon, is it any good?. It is in beta at the moment and is accepting requests to join

Rumoured to also showcase your images as part of their campaigns outwith your region of the internet. It looks like a good deal but remember Canon are a commercial company that will be looking for a constant revenue stream (Eventually).

I got an E/mail about this about 2 months ago and had a look see but flickr just works for me. The changes piss me off but I just learn to accept things that I cannot change.

Thanks Cybers
Gina

I joined this and uploaded a selection of my photos but be aware that Flickr doesn't allow you to export the EXIF data for each photo unless you have a Flikr Pro account.

From the Project 1709 FAQ section:-

Q. Can I opt out of allowing Canon to use my images?

A. Use of Project1709 does not grant Canon any rights to use your images in any way for any purpose.

Gina do you know if they are going to allow sharing of images to message boards or social accounts or merely collate your images ? I cannot find any mention of this though admittedly I have merely perused the T&C's.
Gina

At the moment they allow sharing to Facebook and Flickr but they are asking members to send requests for further features via a button at the bottom of the screen so I would imagine they will extend it to other forums if enough people ask for it. At the moment they don't allow the upload of videos.

Ta much.... It might be worth a wee look again seeing as they have amended the T&C's over photo use for advertising their wares.

Looks like they'll possibly be charging for the service when it goes live, or at least they're keeping they're options open in the T&Cs

It depends how you want to use it. There is our FREE option, which gives you 10GB of storage space for your photos, but includes all functionalities such as social sharing and organisation tools. If you need more space for your collection, then there are two paid-for subscription options. VALUE - which gives you 50GB of storage and all the range of filters and tools for 4.99 a month. Or PREMIUM for 10.99 per month, which gives you 100GB storage, all the tools and the option of add-on storage when you need more space.

10.99 a month lol ... Account closed as even the 4.99 would work out 44 quid dearer than my current subscription with Flickr.

I really like 500px as its not full of cat pictures and blurry holiday pics - they should be on Facebook

The cost for a Plus account is similar to the old Flickr Pro account an awesome account is slightly more but I don't feel the need for the extra bells and whistles
