Castlemilk: Bogany & Mitchellhill

Anyone know why these 6 blocks where demolished? Bogany in march 93 & Mitchellhill in November 05.
fastnet

Probably because they were difficult to let.
John58

but bogany was fully occupied in 1988
fastnet

Obviously 5 years later it wasn't.

Bogany was riddled with damp as my pal lived on the 12th floor of 30 Bogany Terrace.
Mitchellhill was as Fastnet said hard to let as i remember it was called the Village of the Damned as it was where the council papped the junkies, pervs and recently released.
Josie21

They sent all the refugees up to Mitchellhill as well

WTF Has that got to do with them getting demolished ?

Surely having them there would have provided a steady income of rent making them more sustainable.

I think the original point was that it seemed to be a dumping ground bud just life's disjointed and disaffected seemed to be stuck there before the end.

Though I think they were among the first two in the great scheme to clear the skyline in the remit of the council. I am just surprised it took so long to do something wit the sites.

Is there any video of the Bogany demolition?

Hi Fastnet, great video, I have not seen that one before
I worked there for one day, a few years before they were demolished, crikey, was I glad to get back to Norfolk Court
Perhaps if they hadn't used a lot of the high rise as dumping grounds more of them could have been modernised and saved, I know the xex tenants of 66 & 54 Norfolk Court would have liked to have stayed, IF they had done them up and got rid of the anti socials but it was never going to happen, too little money, apart from repairs had been spent on them over the years

218/219 as I don't know if 17+19 Pinkston Drive is still there. I'm also unsure how many of the similar multis in shawlands have been demolished.

Aye, great video.  One of my late brother-in-laws lived in the Mitchell Heights for years, after he'd split up with my sister.  I visited him quite often, but could never get to like going up 20 stories in the lift, although the view certainly was fantastic once you reached the top. The flats seemed OK at the time I visited, in the late 60's.

Great video fastnet. I moved into Mitchellhill in Aug 1967 and in those days it was a brilliant place to stay. Makes you think we got it wrong somewhere down the line.
