Cathkin Braes development

Hi I woke up the other day and looked out my window to see a huge crane erected in the cathkin braes. It's roughly at the mountain bike track but I'm not sure, anyone know whats going on?

Seen this today from the other side of the city the thing looks properly massive. I actually thought it was halfway across the city before i got a proper look. Is it perhaps some building at the site of the old Mitchellhill flats. I never took proeper note of its location but it did stir my curiosity.

It definitely not on the old mitchellhill site as its behind the trees and a little more to the east, I do think it is at the mountain bike track a I've seen up there which may have something to do with the commonwealth games next year.

Its a big old bugger, looks like its puting up the mast of another bloody wind turbine;

GLAPLane

Looks like a wind turbine from where i am.
BTJustice

Looks like GLAPLane and myself were right, Its another fecking windmill.
GLAPLane

It looks massive from my window and i live quite a bit away from it.

I was wondering what was going on there.

I like to drive over the Braes but they need to resurface the road at the hill that leads up from the vets - it's a real filling loosener - strange as they recently resurfaced from the top of the hill (assume different councils - Glasgow and South Lanarkshire - are responsible?).

The road from Carmunnock to Carmunnock Roundabout is also in a shocking state.

I don't no much about wind turbines but should it not be spinning faster than what it's going at just now.  It was a windy a few days ago and it was still moving at a snails trail.  Again i don't no how these things work.
BTJustice

It will be TOO windy just now GLAPlane so its better to lock it in place and take the subsidy.
cybers

They are geared and clutched so you don't end up with a runaway spinning wildly out of control they even have the option to lock them in place and release the blades so they can move independently from the structure in high wind situations.

Sometimes it all goes wrong though.

Managed to get a rather crappy phone pic today.

GLAPLane

Thanks for the info.  It seem to be going faster today.

Surely its just a lone Turbine for the commonwealth games mountan bike circuit and changing rooms/tea,room?
Or is it to power Willie Haugheys new mansion being built in the area, some size by the way, steel framed

Never knew it was the cycling spot for the 2014 games.
[not exactly on topic] Have three of the five Kennishead flats been refurbished in that picture?
fastnet

Yes......The other two are to be demolished.
