Christmas 2008

Hopefully we will get some decent snow this year and some good photos to match thos great photos of the past.

Last week in preperation for the turning on of the Chrismas lights the tree was being decorated.

Now that the lights have been switched on there have already been many pictures taken in the Square.

Currently work is underway to erect the skating rink around the Sir Walter Scott Monument. But it is still possible to get some photos.

The big fences really don't add to the spirit of Christmas. When are they coming down?

Probably when the site is set up fully and a wee bloke from HSE with a clipboard certifies the place as safe.
zolita1908

so that'll be in january then
Alex Glass

The fence should be down soon as the skating is officially opened onMonday 24th November 2008

reccomendations !

Anyone got a link for Photo printing - possibly cards or canvas ? Pop art etc ?

I had a look at Jessops - pricey !

I had a really good picture done last year and lost the company name ! Doh !

Many thanks if you have a reccomendation.

snapfish or photobox are good.  Mind you, snapfish is jessops.
LowLight

Aye snapfish are pretty good. Photobox provide a good service although all my prints came back too dark.

Ever been in the building on the other side, Alex?

I was thinking of asking if I could get in to do a few shots from that angle.

The new Chief Executive of the Chamber of Commerce is a former employee of the Council. I am sure if I asked him nicely he could arrange access to a good window view of the Square

Really like that shot Cybers.
Still can't understand HDR pics - I thought you had to take 3 shots in different settings prior to processing. If so, how did the passers by remain clear in shot ? I fear i have missed something !
cybers

I Cheated ... As i had no tripod I switched to raw mode and then just extracted the 7 values later via photoshop...
It's no a perfect solution but one that works.
Lone Groover

Raw mode ?????

Go one, spoll da beans !
cybers

Most Cameras save images by compression usually Jpeg but most SLR cameras have the ability to bypass compression and give you a lossless image which is known as RAW.
I have also heard it referred to as Digital Negative in some litrature too.
Lone Groover

Ah, that rings a distant bell.

hopefully there's a tripod shaped parcel on Santa's sleigh for me so i can join in !

Thanks Cybers
