There has been a few ambitious plans like building 21 flats within the walls and 7 within the manse... although they'd be thumble size.
Plans for demolition were rejected for some reason too
wee minx

Great pics there, that place looks really dodgy to walk around

It is.... even sticking the edges has its dangers. The entire centre of the floor is a no-go and the spire isnt accessable

Is this the one behind the time capsule Stu ?
If so there is a nesting pair of Kestrels in the spire or it might be a different bird of prey that was why everything ground to a halt.
The plan for flats as far as i was aware was still on the cards but financial situations have changed what was meant to happen and the council thought 21 flats was a no go as it meant an extension to the existing building to accomodate them all.
Very Brave Inside shots though...

Took a donner around Coatbrig the other day. A wealth of gems hidden around the place. The cream meringues in Christie's bakers on the High Street are excellent.

Cliftonhill Stadium. These turnstiles haven't seen use for a few years.

Municipal Buildings

This was Coatbridge High School. It had a load of sh!te extensions. Fortunately, as at Uddingston, they kept the original building.

Defo the town ....

I have not seen the fountain flow for ages .... is it broke or are they saving money ?

There is supposedly a bridge in coatbridge on an old railway line and i was told the mountain of bucky bottles is about half way up ... though i dont know where it is it was a local guy who told me about it.

Superb stuff, many memories there for me as I was born and brought up in the Monklands.

Here is one from me

vol 06 14 band bank street by d9009alycidon, on Flickr

This is Bank street looking East towards the Caledonian Railway Bridge.  Looks unfamiliar??  THat is because it was taken before 1900, when the Caledonian railway rebuilt and enlarged the station and built new bridges over the canaland road.  (Photograph copyright Graham Gartshore)

Looks like the view from my bedroom window when I was a kid, brought up in Sikeside. Can remember the Monkland Canal as it was less than 100 yards from our back door. Think it was eventually drained in the mid 70's.

I went to London in 1982 for a job interview, got the train home from London Euston and it stopped at Coatbridge Central. Also remember catching the train from there to Inverness/Aviemore in the late 70's.
