Copying photos

Hi guys can you help???

I have a wee gripe, I was pointed in the direction of a site called Parkhead live??, I was told that a lot of my photos of Parkhead were on that site, no mention of me taking them, also some of Strepadairs photos were also on it
Now I know that once photos go on the web they are fair game but why dont folk ask for permission, which in my case would have been given
I have emailed the person concerned so far no reply, I have also alerted Strepadair
There are only two web sites that my Parkhead photos are on and Glescapals have a block on copying, the other site is UG, no bar on copying photos
Admin  suggested posting my gripe on the board

I am not having a go at anyone but if any of you know who took them can you have a word

This guy who is called George Ballie, has had a go at the webbie of Glescpals, saying you are not much of a pal for not allowing me to copy photos, now the webbie knows what he was on about
It goes without saying that all of you can copy my stuff, just credit it to me, thats what I have done while on this board for stuff that I have copied and apart from one guy I have never been refused the right to copy a photo

My photos are on view on facebook

This is the link
Any advice will be welcome
Bye for now, norrie

Anything that is on the web can be copied. I'm not saying it should be but just that it is possible and very easy... and they are certainly not fair game.

What you should do is send an email to the site admin stating that they are breaching your copyright and must remove the offending images within 48hrs. If they fail to do so you should then write to their hosting provider and they'll force the issue.

Ah its on Facebook, just click on the 'report this image' link and selct copyright infringement as the reason.
norrie

Hi AlanM, I am giving him till the end of the week, then I will report him to the web site
The way I feel just now I feel like refusing him permission to show them
Bye for now, norrie

I don't think any of those are actually his - a number have been lifted from the Mitchell. There's others that have a GlegaPals watermark.

You should invoice him for unauthorised use of photographs at £100 an image, watch how quickly he takes them down.
cybers

As Alan said Norrie hit the report image button and site copyright as its the only sure fire way of getting your stuff removed from facebook
norrie

Hi AlanM, I never noticed any with the Glescapals watermark, need to check that out and if its right that will be three of us after this guy

Cybers £100 per print, hmm  might be a great idea
norrie

Hi AlanM, I have just had a quick look and only found one from Glescapals, kids with a lollipop man crossing the road
That was donated by a Glescapals to GPs
Will check for more later

Have you ever tried using the copyright infringement option?
AlanM

no, but I did have a wee look at it and it looks like a complete pita compared to Flickr which is really easy.
Stuball

Yeah, it's a total arseache... too complicated for what it is
norrie

Hi alanM, Ok I know the one you talk of, will check it out
Still no reply
norrie

Hi guys, to heck with waiting on a reply to my email, he has had long enough
I filled in a form, told them how many photos and provided the URL for one of them, no doubt this will drag on, as there is over 100 photos approx, hope they dont want the URL for all of them, that will take forever

You do know the 'bar' on copying photos is a complete waste of time? Anyone with the most basic computer knowledge can get round it... probably why there is no right click disabling done on UG
norrie

Hi stuball, yes I know that but a lot of folk cant copy the photos, so they ask for them and more often that not get them
Having said that, we cant stop the more experienced tea leafs
If the guy had replied to my email asking for premission etc, I would have given it
So far no reply from Facebook, apart from telling me they were looking at the problem.
norrie

Update on the photos, first lot have been deleted or I am denied access,I will get my friend to check that out
While I was in there was another page of my photos, Strepadairs photos and 30 or so from Glasgow Gguide,( Webmaster has been informed)
I reported mine and Strepadairs, its easy you just copy the url of the photos and thay way they know what photos are being questioned, time consuming right enough but worth it
I will let you know what happens

Hi Guys, I got this email today from Parkhead Live
I have given the Ok for MY photos to be posted as long as they are credited to me

Hi Norrie

The photos will be ones of parkhead which we at parkhead people appreciate
we aren't putting them on a website to make money from pay per clicks or anything
its just an information page for people that came and live in parkhead
the photos give them the old memory's back, thanks to the people who took the photos, yourselves

When i made the facebook i just done what anyone would do and searched the web for photos
some websites photos were just there to be copied, with no contact details or copyrights to ask permission to copy them
so as you say,its fair play once on the net

but i will take this opportunity to thank you on behalf of all the people from parkhead
for whatever photos belonged to you
i'm sure it will make you feel good that people are having enjoyment from looking at them
if you have anymore they would be much appreciated, and if you are on facebook yourself
please come in and tag them to your website or your own photo collection
if you leave a comment on yours(i took this one on?) ill post next to the photo who took it
there is so many photos that i got randomly i wouldn't know who's is who
so couldn't say in the albums courtesy of,whoever

Apologies
Parkhead people
cybers

Funny how you got a reply after Facebook started howkin them off

Bravo for fighting your corner wee man like you i have the opinion its not always about the money a thank you and please is sometimes worth a lot more.

The cash is nice too mind you
norrie

Hi Cybers, I am not sure if he only checks his email once a week
or as you say he found his photos vanishing.
I will need to see how to tag the photos in facebook with my name and date taken.

People pay for photos?
Alex Glass

Someone on facebook took some photos I posted up and claimed them as his own. I posted a message just to let him and everyone know they were mine and whilst I don't mind people using them I hold the originals if they ask I an always happy to pass on.

He got the message and a little bit embarraced.
norrie

Hi Folk ,I got an facebook message from this guy who lifted my photos

January 31 at 10:35pm Report
how sad are you in your old age, getting facebook to take our album down cause it had a couple of fotos, u say, are yours in it,im gonny post your name on the parkhead people page and let them know you took there enjoyment away from them, wtf its only fotos???

My repy
Lets get this straight, if you had asked for the photos or credited them to me you could have had them, I said that to you in my email I was prepared to leave it at that, any photos that had been deleted, I would have replaced, now you can get lost, any photos of mine still on your facebook, I will report to facebook
I am not the only one whose photos you just lifted without permission
Stuball

I found a collection of mine on facebook.... but the guy was ok about it and took them down and I reposted them with my own watermark.

My nightclub shots get stolen and reposted all the time and I've learned to get used to it. I bitch and complain about it at times but at the end of the day, they'll always be downloaded and saved on peoples computers. The only time when I'll pursue them now if it's been used commercially... which a few have been

The one that got me was citymap an iphone app .. they were farming images on a huge scale with 12 images of mine alone used for Glasgow and at 12 quid a pop the app was not cheap or free so i threatened them with court action.

But generally if its for non commercial use and i am asked i have no gripes.
norrie

So I am not the only one who has had stuff nicked, sad really, we do the work and they want to get the use of it

Dave, what would you like us to do with these? Delete his posts?
BTJustice

Just realised I had been posted a question here. I think you did everything that could be expected and I hope the guy got the idea that its not on to pinch pics.
