Cowcaddens/Garscube Roads

I would not dare to contradict anyone but having been born before WWII -I can well remember been taken to the Grand Cinema in Cowcaddens Street or the Cambridge Cinema by my mother during the early years of the war and one time she. Pointed the public house adjacent to the Grand saying that is where Benny Lynch was the "Chucker Out" - we didn't know the word "Bouncer" then and across the road was the Normal School at the corner of New City Road with the sign "Garscube Road" - My eldest married sister lived in the building at the corner of Dobbies Lane and Garscadden Road above the children's nursery
I am in my eighties but can well remember playing inPhoenix Park in Garscube Road.

Cowcaddens and Garscube Roads

Excuse my error in previous post -my sister stayed in building at the corner of Dobbies Loan and Garscube Road above the Children's Nursery and her address was Garscube Road - I can also recall seeing Gone With The Wind in the Grand Cinema so who could offer a date when that would be?

There are a few photos of old Cowcaddens on the Virtual Mitchell (click here)

I lived on Port Dundas Road at the bottom of Airdrie Street. Forum Index -> Glasgow From The Past
