Egyptian Halls, Union St

hello comrades!

I was invited into this building by the owners, who are keen to publicise their struggle for grant aid and council support for their redevelopment plans. That's the only way to get access, the building is comprehensively secured and alarmed too.

The Egyptian Halls was built by Alexander "Greek" Thomson in 1870-72. It's an iron and concrete structure with heavy sandstone walls on three sides. The bold use of cast iron in the building reflects both Thomson's compulsion to innovate, and the iron manufacturing business of his client.

I'm very happy with the low light performance of my lumix G1 here. In general, I underexposed most of the pictures by two or three stops and then brought up the brightnesses during editing.

Cheers!
