Football Grounds

Moderator Edit

This thread is intended for pictures & info of fitba grounds, and that includes all the
Glasgow fitba grounds (and beyond) at every level.

If any posters use this thread to indulge in any tit-for-tat bullshit or one-upmanship
or sectarian crap it will be dealt with swiftly and without dispute by the moderators
of the forum.

============================================================
This is a chance for users to post pictures they have taken of stadiums the same
way they have taken pictures of other buildings - Past/Presents etc - so use this
thread wisely.

You have been warned......

Shawfield Stadium is a veritable gold mine for urbexers. Most of the stadium and car park are in the exact same condition as they were over 25 years ago! The Greyhound Track and a few minor adjustments aside, it even has the old toilets...

I was like a wee boy again when I took these today, so imagine the sheer HORROR when my batteries died - with no spares - just minutes in FFS!!!

Maybe Clyde could move back, who knows, they may get their glory years back, when they could attract a four figure crowd

Aye you're not far off mate! I spoke to the groundsman there as the club are thinking of selling up to a developer for student flats, then moving to an all purpose stadium.

The pitch at McDairmid is always immaculate. It's one of those wee grounds I used to look forward to going to when i still did football.

BTW....Who the feck is Jerry Kerr ?.....
cybers

Was their manager in the 50's and 60's and restructured the then team and led to their survival. I hate Tannadice with a passion as yi kin tell. Pittodrie is another place i hated... Even more cos it was a dump and proper cold up there

James H

I agree James ... I thought the sheds of corrugated added something to the football that has been lost since the all seater.

I lived in the shadow of Parkhead and i do mean shadow of the big black corrogated celtic end with the only markings on it being "FRED" BARRA" "KERDO" and "YDT" but hearing that thing getting thumped on match days was magical especially after a goal.

Not sure this token terracing lark they are talking about will ever take hold like the millions it seemed to a wide eyed kid they used to cram into old firm games.
James

Neither do I. For all the talk of "how do we get the fans back" the most
important point is ignored like the elephant in the room it really is - the
scandalous price of football in Scotland. It is simply never addressed.

Football is booming in Germany and it's *cheaper* to watch a Bundesliga
match than it is to watch SPL matches. And you can stand on safe terracings.
And you can buy a beer at the game. The people "running" football in Scotland
simply ape what's happening over the border in Engerlundshire.

That's like Lidl saying "you know what, we're going to charge customers the
same prices as Waitrose do - that's a good business model..."

James H
cybers

I went to a Barca game for half the price of an Old firm FFS never had the Cerveza but it was there if I wanted it. So you you hit that one right on the head.

Made no sense to me at the time and just took it as local economy rates but when you consider "Goofy" was there at the time on mega bucks its obviously a business model that works.

Though the latest shenanigans from the SPL has to be applauded by their forward thinking. Lets Murder one of the two cash cows we have. Even bigger than missing an elephant in the room. Wonder if this time next year they will sit back and say ... Oh erm our budgets need slashed we cannot for the life of us fathom out why as they carry the league out in a box to bury it.
Stuball

As a resident of a football stadium area, the idea of drinking in the stadium would either work or be a total disaster in my opinion. There seems to be a culture who believe in getting as plastered as possible before going to watch a game and the local shops have absolutely no problem in selling them copious amounts of buckfast and the likes. So, would it work? Perhaps if the local shops didn't serve them, a couple of pints in the stadium wouldn't be a problem.
cybers

Stu you more than anyone knows the utter devastation 3 pints of pish in a close entry can cause on match days. I dont envy those who still have to live next to large football grounds and it amazes me to this day the states some get in to go to the football. So perhaps a turning away of the slaughtered is the order of the day with a few beers inside the ground. It would certainly be more the preferred option even in my opinion as i used to hate the getting tanked up while the bus stops at every offy on the way to the games a thing of the past.

Though the police now stop away buses and search them for Alcohol for the Christmas plod party.
