Getting More Popular

Most users ever online was 49 on Sun May 18, 2008 9:56 am

I think this may have been thanks to Zoe posting the link to her Flickr set of the demolition of the flats at Forge Place.

Urban Glasgow is on the way up

Well done Zoe for being the only one to get photos and sharing them with everyone

Agreed Alex, it`s good to watch it grow from humble beginings and flourish    The only way is up for UG

I thought Icarus was a mythter.

Icarus

I think Icarus might have been both a myth and a mythter !

A few years ago, here in Oz, there was a champion racehorse named after him ...

Gay Icarus !

Great to see the site finally moving along !

One of the downsides of becoming more popular is that it brings you to the attention of the spammers and scammers of the world.

No doubt you'll all have had an offer from our newest "member" offering you a fantastic offer for your bank account details

300 Registered Members

Thought I would draw attention to the fact that there are 297 Registered Members to the site.

Although many are not active it is great to see so many people have registered here and some many have become active members.

Thanks to the providers of this site and the moderators who keep order. This site has gone from strength to strength in such a short period of time and it has been a pleasure to have has some great discussions develop.

And well done to the 300 who make this site worth log-in to.
fastnet

Well said alex.

Although i have not been here long i have really enjoyed it.

in fact it is one of the 1st sites i log into.
sputnik

yip alex, quite new as well but will hanging around for a long time.the site is awe things tae awe men.
Alex Glass

It is great to see so many new people have registered in the last few months and most have not just joined and made one post and disappeared they have stayed and added a new dimension here.

Some have posted up great photos and others have been happy to share personal stories and information about places some of us know very little about.

This is what makes Urban Glasgow great for me. I noticed as well that there was a new record set with 71 people on line at one time.

Long may this site continue
James

 Onward and upward.

Check out this guy's site for fun and japes at the expense of the would-be scammers...He makes them jump through hoops to get at his banking details which he ultimately never reveals

I reckon i must have stumbled over the line in about 305th place, shame really as trying to catch up on the stuff added by the previous 304 or so contributors isn't easy. At times it's like the comedy club with pictures, i can stand about an hour then my guts start to ache with all the laughing at comments and quotes.

It's not helped that the stuff on site has made me head out with my camera either, i won't pretend my contributions are to the same standards but hey, at least i can try.
Stuball

never mind the 300.... we're 1 off the 400 mark
Alex Glass

100 new members registered in under four months must be a record

And more people participating on a regular basis as well

fastnet

Just noticed that there are 480 members now.

Not long until 500..................
Alex Glass

Would that be almost 200 new members in six months?

Weapon of choice; a camera and a ladder.

Kidding aside this is one of the few sites I make a point of logging into every day now. It reminds me of why I got on the net in the first place; loonies with a enough of a passion for something to put it online.

Just noticed we are over the 500 mark now.

Thanks for stating the obvious Fastnet.

Any other words of wisdom?
fastnet

Sorry.............That's me done Alex.
Alex Glass

Oooh come on don't be shy.

I am sure everyone has thought of asking a new member a question or enquired about their interest.
sputnik

i would say, hang around for a while and dont be a stranger.
Alex Glass

Nice one Sputnik

Many new members don't even post so it would be good to get them to post any comment or even contribute some photos or stories.

What is your Glasgow Story lurkers? Join in the banter and the sharing.
fastnet

I would ask how many great pics can you post and give us even more memories.

Hopefully that wont put them off posting.
Alex Glass

Well done Fastnet
fastnet

On another note i would ask them..............why did you pick that avatar ?
Alex Glass

Now you're talking.

It sometimes is the small attention to that sort of detail that goes un-asked.

Would that be another thread Alex ?

Lead by example Alex, what thread made you sign up
Alex Glass

I was told about Urban Glasgow about a month after it was started and decided to join as it was new and looked like a great opportunity to participate in an evolving site rather than one which was well established.

It still feels the same today as it did when I first joined in 2007.

So no single thread but a great group of people who wanted to set up a site which is inclusive and fun to be on and fill those evenings rather than siting in front of the TV doing nothing.
Stuball

Yeah, almost the same... it was a fun non-clique thing
Alex Glass

That as well
cybers

Yep same here that and the other thing....
John

Well said Alex, I remember we joined here around the same time for pretty much the same reasons
wee minx

I saw a wee fly link on another forum, came in , saw it was new and got stuck in.
I've had disagreements but no one has been out of order in a rude or insulting way.  Plenty of laughs.  That's the way it should be
It's doing well and hopefully that will continue.
Doorstop

I arrived on much the same bus as wee minx.

I've always enjoyed the banter here - the place doesn't take itself too seriously until the subject demands it, then it's informative and patient with the uninitiated.

It's like a lovely wee village, nestled deep in a warm and inviting dappled copse, populated by friendly nutters and perverts.

Home from home.

smb95

What is the estimated rate of membership growth these days?  I've heard that it was quite high in 2008/2009 though the rate of increase is not much anymore.
cybers

Where did you hear it was quite high around 08/09
The reason I am asking is there have been many more members joined in the periods 10/11 and last year was a bumper crop though we still attract the odd eejit or two who change their nom-de-plume to try to deflect from the fact we know they were eejits but its all good.

Was there perhaps a genuine reason you dredged up a 3 year old post or was it for entry into the aforementioned elite group ?
smb95

I found out that it was that high from an older post in this very topic.  My reason for asking the rate of membership growth is from curiosity.
James

I've never given it a second thought. Until now.

I wont be giving it a third thought as any sort of priority. It is what it is.

James H
cybers

For the record the membership already for 2013 has already outstripped all previous years so the data you gleaned from this very thread is flawed.
Like James said it is what it is and is hardly worth bothering about in the great scheme of things.

cybers wrote:

...and there was me thinking I was your soulmate Cybers
cybers

Your not an eejit your a guy who knows theres nae hidden dangers from taking photos as long as you take your personal security personally.

Not like the last eejit where Glasgow was a war zone much worse than downtown Basra or the other clownshoes who screamed like a girl in a cemetery while looking for deed people....

Wow Streapadair where did you did this information up form. It doesn't seem such a long time ago and although I haven't always been on the site in recent years It still has a new feel to it and hopefully as next year is almost here the site will go into 2014 with a new lease on life.

I took a few hundred b&w street shots in Glasgow in the mid-70s, many of buildings now long gone, and if anybody's interested I could knuckle down, get them scanned, and put them up on here.

Hello everyone, btw. First post, but I've done a bit of lurking.

I think you may have had a part to play in this success Streapadair ... .. congratulations !!
