Half five counts as "night" right now, right?
Either way, here's the crowd who came out earlier to pay their last respects to Nelson Mandela.

Was this a sporadic gathering or an organised event?
Catnip

Very quickly organised. They had a bunch of speakers, Anas Sarwar, Humza Yousaf, and a few others I didn't catch the name of. Plus a couple of musicians and a choir.

There was a wee auld man in a Croatia cap who came along with a massive Saltire with Mandela's face on, and just stood there stoically waving it.

It was a proper touching event, glad I heard about it. :)

The one extreme right is the third blue block John, it's already been stripped. The asbestos boys were in 63 (the left hand blue block) this morning so it is looking more likely to be a multiple blowdown next time round
fastnet

Ah right.

I just assumed it was an older pic because that looks like the big slab block before the blowdown...

Just want to wish everyone at Urban Glasgow a Happy New Year. I am one of the forum lurkers who rarely contributes, mainly due to the fact I don't have anywhere near the wealth of knowledge that a lot of people on here do. I just enjoy reading about the city and everything it has to offer.

So I thought I should contribute a bit more this year and here is my first effort:

norrie

Hi Horza, well thats beter than any night shot I have tried, be a lurker no more, you have plenty to offer UG

Hope you contribute more.....

Hi Ken198960, most of my photos before early 2012 were taken by several small digital cameras, they are easier to use than my DSLR( my own fault) must read the Manual

Got inside thise building a few years ago for a wee explore. Not much of interest left inside except for piles of ceramic tiles on the lower floors. The rest was mostly junk with a hobo bed on the top floor.
I believe the original use was a telephone exchange and shortly after out visit, there must have been a new owner who put a brand new roller shutter over the door.

The new style lights are metal halide which give a natural white light as opposed to the orange of the old style sodium ones

Nope just used the street lighting to backlight it and because theres a few cash machines and Chmists local there is great lighting on the Junction of Edinburgh Road

The street lights no longer being orange helps so much as well. Makes a lot of places so much more appealing.

Could not agree more though some of these BrightWhite lamps can blow the detail on a building if its too near.
Certainly the low underlying hum of the orange lights is gone though not to sure thats in tune with my comfort blanket thing its certainly safer feeling.

As a wee asides...

I was involved in a low speed pursuit last night by a guy in a mobility scooter. He wanted to perform a citizens arrest on me for taking photos without a licence. I never helped the situation by laughing at him. He opened the can of wrath by hitting me with his fecking stick and shoving the tripod over.

at 3am

I resisted kicking his heed aff and unplugged his battery instead till he calmed doon.

Well done you  - wouldn't want you done for assaulting a battery

It was actually rather funny till he knocked the camera over. as I was walking the other way from him to start with and also on the other side of the road. Wife got out the car and came over and was actually laughing too till he started in with the stick.

He was not an auld guy with a bee in his bonnet .... Just a bloody junkie with wan leg. Think he thought i might have got photos of him casing the BMW he was looking in.

The Citation

The Citation

This was the previous Glasgow Sheriff Court. When it changed its use The "Herald Diary" ran a competition to find a suitable name for the bar. The winner was the "Bar L" in honour of the immediate destination of most of its previous clientele. However, this did not seem to suit the owners, who, however kept the legal connection by naming it "Yhe Citation."

Cracking photograph.

I saw the front of this being photographed by those guys with the elevation poles on their Land Rover last year. They also had a bloody expensive quadcopter in a suitcase and was hoping that the footage at least would have escaped onto YouTube but nothing.
