glasgow binmen strike of the 70s

i was thinking of the strike in the 70s
when the army came in to clear up
i was watching a film called ratcatcher and it has a small clip
of the army clearing the back courts

I knew I had a pic of the Army picking up the rubbish sitting in the pile I got from my Pop a couple of months back. Taken from ground floor flat, 6 Jedworth Road in Drumchapel, looking out onto Jedworth Avenue.

June 1975 according to the photo border .. I actually remember taking that shot. My Uncle Ernie was in the Army and I was fascinated for a while by all things Army related.

Why is it you need these again?

remember thousands of bin liners on the streets, worked in Townhead at the tme, also remember the fire brigade strikes and the army's green godess fire engines, lot of strikes back then, power cuts, bread queues....happy days

Reminds me of a review about the recent Ewan Magregor Film 'Perfect Sense', set in Glasgow, where a commentator on Rotten Tomatoes stated that 'the limited budget makes the end of the World look no more menacing than a prolonged strike by Glasgow binmen.'
