Google Chrome

New browser from those clever people at Google, released in Beta about 15 mins ago.

Downloaded it and giving it a whirl - boy is it fast!!!!

I've been goin' around posting this up on other forums..

It's installed fine on Vista x64. Running most sites and it seamlessly imported all bookmarks, passwords etc from Firefox. Pretty fast too.

On the homepage where it shows you most visited sites, if you hold CTRL and click on the sites you want to open they will open in their own tabs.

Any more tricks?

Aye it's looking quite promising. Some pages loading faster than Firefox/IE..some not.

Incognito is a pretty good feature. 'Control the current page' drop down>new incognito window.

Will they throw their weight behind it or is this one of their 20% time projects?

I have had my fingers burned by Google too often recently as they don't always maintain applications or issue new versions.

I can't afford to start to rely on something only to have it stop working on me 6 months down the line.

I know what you mean.

It is only in beta so maybe even wait and see what happens over the next few months. I won't be moving over any time soon.

been using Chrome tonight, but I'm missing Greasemonkey and all my Flickr scripts.

I am impressed by the speed, Incognito seems to have some useful applications, like banking (I said BANKING)

Will probably go back to Firefox for day to day use but it will stay as an addition to the testing rota as it will become pretty popular, especially seeing the media coverage it has received.

Looks alright but my middle mouse wheel button works as a quick scroll on Firefox
and IE but not on GC.

I dont mean the wheel scroll BTW.

That's the word filter for ya!

Looks like it'll be good for web-development, the DOM inspector seems pretty good for a first attempt. Seems to mess up drawing form controls sometimes... especially on here!

The task monitor and stats for nerds, are a nice touch.
Here's some more for the address bar..

I have installed it in a VMware virtual machine running Vista x64 and first impressions are that it is very fast.

Excellent article about the development here:

I am a bit of a cynic but I also think that competition can only be a good thing for the end user.

When MS released IE7 they stated that they would move onto a 9-12 month development cycle but it has taken them almost 2 years to get a beta of IE8 out the door.

Hmmm. I am getting lots of strange problems as I type this message. It isn't rendering the text properly....

In for a penny... I might as well install this on my main desktop to eliminate the possibility that VMware is causing the rendering problem.

It isn't VMWare mate. It's happening with me too but only in this forum.

I'm having my first explore of UG using Google Chrome !

Only downloaded it last night and have spent today trying to learn what it can do.

Seems to be working OK but, I guess, only time will tell.
