Some have said, the best thing to ever happen to Manchester was that bomb a few years back
Alex Glass

It had helped them to make some significant changes and with a working tram network

Also seen something which I didn't know took place in Manchester before and even my brother who has lived there for over 40 years didn't know about it.

The same but slightly different Beano   Some are at different stages of re-development
Hawick_1987

I was down there for a weekend last September and visited a lot of great buildings. It was sad to see how some had fallen into disuse i.e. the former fire station and Police Museum, but the new buildings especially at Media City were impressive!

The building on the right is the old Woolworths store where 10 people died, 30+ rescued and others injured in a fire on the 8th May 1979 as many customers and staff chose to ignore the initial fire alarm that had actuated, but then failed due to the fire. Some restaurant customers even refused to evacuate the store as they had just paid for their lunch - the majority of those killed were the restaurant customers.

20/20 hindsight and all that, but seriously? That's horrific!

A former fire master told me this story years ago. He was the manager of Princes mall in East Kilbride and was always preaching fire safety.

I am heading down here tomorrow and this thread has given me plenty of thought.

fastnet

Does anyone have any idea why this is blue ?

I thought it might be something to do with the medals at the commonwealth games.

But I have just noticed GR on the front of the box.
cybers

If you think United then i am sure in the CITY you were in it will become apparent is the official explanation.... the Mardy basturts !

Mail boxes for overseas used to be blue and this is used as the excuse but its not.
fastnet

I have been told that what it was for  but didn't believe them.....
