Considering the house was demolished between 1921 and 1927 and that film was released in 1939 I think it may be a local myth ...
calamity

Not sure about it at all... but they could have bought some contents of the big house and had it shipped over and maybe it lay somewhere, I had thought of the year myself... nice wee bit of info though. you could be right though...    http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/g/gwtw.html#.UmfTYnB6aOE

Aye Norrie as I said I have a very diverse collection
Marblez

This is as close as you can get of a "present" of Hamilton Palace. The building stood where the changing rooms for the sports facilities are now and the standing stones are within the recreated Grand Avenue which was a tree lined avenue which used to run from Hamilton Palace to Chatelherault

Shame they had to pull it down, guess Glasgow is not the only council who have destroyed our historical buildings, in the past

There was subsidence under the house due to mine workings in the area .. remember that Lanarkshire provided the coal for the city of Glasgow for all its domestic and industrial needs .. Chatelherault has also been subject to subsidence due to sand quarrying. That is why there is such a steep slope in front of the house. When it was first being restored there was the remains of a quarry just down from the wee circular car park which is next to the house, it has now been filled in

Came across this when looking for stuff for the Larkhall thread. It is a short film about the construction of the M74 at Hamilton. Modern day H&S boffins will love this !!
