Brilliant Cybers thanks!

not far from where i live then!

any idea when it was knocked down ?
cybers

It was demolished around 93 - 94 not sure when it actually closed it was the place to see The BMX Bandits or Teenage Fanclub but i saw neither there as it was easier to just go see bands in Glasgow or wherever I happened to be working at any given time.

Was sent this photo after asking someone locally but the quality is shocking. and after a bit of a websearch myself alas its one of those places destined to the landfill without anyone lamenting its passing.

thanks for the info and photo.

ive lived in the area since 2007, and i knew there must have been something there where the football pitch is(was, now a wreck and dumping ground and hangout for neds). people in my work said they used to go there

nice :)

1993 sounds about right Cybers, it was partly burnt out, I`m not sure if that happened after it closed or if it was the cause of closure. I didn`t take any photos either, wish I had now.

Aha the Removal Man cometh...
Did they not take away the one at Sunnyside Coatbridge the same year John ?
John

I knew that would cheer you up
The Sunnyside went around the same time yes, but it wiznae me for a change, did that go on fire too ?
It seemed for a spell in that era a lot of this type of semi suburban hotels were being flattened, another one I recall doing around a year or so later was The Clyde Valley Hotel, IIRC that ended life as a tandoori restaurant before being removed for ahem luxury flats.

Had a few nights up the old Sunnyside as a much younger guy it was like the wild west without the guns though the horses were either tied up or getting chatted up at the bar.

I vaguely remember it as a shell before it was flattened Where was the Clyde Valley as i have no recollection of that one ?
Another Fort Apache the Bronx hostelry was The Stepps was in it once was not stupid or drunk enough to ever return.
John

The Clyde Valley Hotel was on the corner of Kirkfield Rd just off the A72 approaching Lanark.
Stepps was one I gave a complete bodyswerve, heard too many stories about it.

My mum and dad used to go to a restaraunt/hotel place in the middle of seafar housing estate in the 80s when we lived in cumbernauld. Surprise surprise it burnt down.

There was actually a fire tonight at the same site as the hattonrigg hotel, as usual neds no doubt.

Sorry to hear this. Used to be 25 pubs locally when I was a teenager there, most of them lay on the main street between the West end at Bellshill and the Woodend at Mossend. Hattonrigg was busy, was there mostly on Sundays in the late 70's. Takes its name from the pit that was behind the Academy, can still remember the bing and Hattonrigg Terrace.
