Helensburgh used to be great for a skive when I was out and about with my old work. Heading back from Kilcreggan we'd have a wee chippy a cone and some mini golf.

Nice pics guys.
calamity

Oi, Darrel, are you a certain Mr Hendrie??

I saw you at Dumbarton East the other day driving 320302 tae Glesga.
darrel

i sure am

Tell Dave to remember about making the layout suitable for Hornby Live Steam, won't you, even if it is in a woodmill or whatever the feck it's supposed to be!! (except for a dump, of course!)

I'll be along one night soon with my new model kettle (Papyrus) once I've practiced controlling it on the rolling road.

..... You do have a layout up in there don't you??

Anyway, what have I been up too recently?? I've been chucking big lumps of granite across a lake and charting the depth of public ponds. What else can I really say??
Stuball

Um... I hate to bust up the lovely get together but could you PM each other? Just so we can keep this thread on its proper subject matter
Douglas

It IS the Helensburgh model Railway Club, which is in ...Helensburgh, so, in this thread about Helensburgh, it IS, by default, relevant as it's HELENSBURGH!!

I'll get it seen to sooner or later, sooner probably more than later, and I don't imagine there is much to be waffled about anyway considering Darrel probably knows nothing about it, so no need to bother about the at this stage.

By the way, I don't need to PM him, I can just shout at him as his train goes past!!

Great pics all, bringing back lots of fond memories of when I was a kid.

Beano, I'm sure the grass area to the right on your last picture is the same area where me and my big brother used to have fantastic putting matches during the late 1950's !

Thanks for the memories,

Tombro

Yes Tombro, I can remember the pitch and putt green.
Douglas

It was the green at Levengrove Park in Dumbarton I remember, although I think I did also play in Helensburgh also (in fact I'm almost sure I did).

Such natural Golfing talent, wasted!!  - I remember playing crazy golf in Rothsay and I chipped the ball into the Clyde!!

Helensburgh set for 6.3m redevelopment ( BBC)

A 6.3m plan has been approved to redevelop Helensburgh's historic town centre
and West Bay esplanade.

Argyll and Bute Council said the move would see the area's largest town undergo
"the most major improvement works it has seen for decades". The tender process
will now begin with work due to start in late February 2012 and finish in early May 2013.

The scheme is part of Argyll and Bute Council's 30m CHORD programme to regenerate
key coastal towns. Others in line for investment are Campbeltown, Oban, Rothesay and
Dunoon.

Investment catalyst

Councillor Gary Mulvaney, board member of Helensburgh CHORD project, said:
"This is arguably the most significant decision taken for Helensburgh since Argyll and
Bute Council came into existence in 1996. Independent assessors have concluded that
this project has the potential to support and grow the area's business base and act
as a catalyst for attracting new investment, as well as helping to attract new residents
and increase visitor numbers. I'm sure every town in the country would jump at
such an opportunity, particularly in the current challenging economic climate."

When work starts in Helensburgh next year, contractors will upgrade the "streetscape"
in the town centre's main shopping areas and outside the town's Central Station. An open
space, capable of hosting events, will be created in Colquhoun Square and visitor
signage will be improved throughout the town.
