I have been told (by someone who works for the police) that if you are stopped and argue your rights they will just charge you with the catch-all breach of the peace.
A guy was photographing outside a golf course in Glasgow recently and the police arrived, took his camera and wiped his memory card. They have no right to do this but we now live in an environment where it is seen to be suspicious to question authorities.
What happened to good old civil disobedience? It is time ordinary people stood up for themselves and reclaimed their hobby.

Seriously, you'd think they had nothing better to do with their time.

Here we go again....
A spokesperson for the Met told the photographers' group earlier this year that "cameras are potentially more dangerous than guns".
http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment.../2008/aug/01/google.searchengines
I have got quite excited about photography again and have been reading technique books etc. I now feel this is a hopeless situation. I was out in town for 3 hours yesterday and felt too self-conscious to take my camera out of my bag.
I am off to London next week and Birmingham the week after and see little point in taking my camera along.
I give up.....

Did you ask yourself first ! never assume as you are the parent that you are allowed to photograph baby.... If not the terrorists in police uniforms it will be social services wondering if you are some sort of deviant...
Its getting silly now !!!

Well I had to bite my tongue at the woman, I was ready to give a lecture, then i just decided against it. It's just another thing that they seem to moan about now, one person does a silly thing with a camera, and all of a sudden we're public enemy.

It seems the government are very keen to photograph and track us but less keen for us to take photographs.
Unmanned spy planes to police Britain
The Government is drawing up plans to use unmanned "drone" aircraft currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan to counter terrorism and aid police operations in Britain. The MoD is carrying out research and development to enable the spy planes, which are equipped with highly sophisticated monitoring equipment that allows them to secretly track and photograph suspects without their knowledge, to be deployed within three years.

Well, yes, unless they were blind. It was with a wee pocket compact digi with maximum 3x optical zoom. Not hiding with big lens.
Me, watching them, watching me :)

Apart from the PAYG mobile thats me !!!
The government would love it if pidgeon holing as a demographic actually worked.
Pity the only people to thick to realise it are the very thick people who came up with the idea.
Terrorism in my case means having the ordasity to appeal parking fines.

I am totally opposed to I.D. cards so I was talking to someone the other week about it and they honestly believe it would stop illegal immigrants, terrorism (what terrorism? I replied) etc etc. It's people like the person I was speaking to that's turning us into a nation of fear mongers.
I have said from the very beginning if I.D. cards become compulsory and must be integrated into my passport I'll just never leave the country again. They'll just be another big healthy tax for the Government.
Rant over.
Apologies for being a little off topic.

The ID cards proposal is a disgrace. I am already looking at options for moving abroad.
Now if I can just persuade my wife.....
|

Here is where I cause a ripple.... I dont see what the problem is with carrying round a card to say who you are...
BUT on saying that, I do NOT agree in paying anything for it and failure showing one should NOT result in a fine or arrest (instead, something like a horti issued)
Doesnt mean I think the police should stomp around demanding to see cards to a random selection but in times when you get caught up in an incident or problem, why wouldnt you want to hide who you are?
|
Hugo Drax
|
Disagreeing with ID cards does not necessarily mean that someone would want to hide who they are.
Even if they were to waive the direct charge you will still be paying for it indirectly through taxation.
|
LowLight
|
Apparently the police will have no new powers to stop and request you show the card.
The price is estimated at £93 for a I.D./Passport combo. Now I don't know about everyone else but if this scheme was started right now I honestly couldn't afford almost £300 to buy cards for my family. I'm not the only one in that situation so would that mean I would be turned down flat for a new job/bank account?
Terrorism? What terrorism? The FEAR getting shoved right in our faces. I'm surprised we don't have an equivalent of the U.S. HOMELAND SECURITY ADVISORY SYSTEM (maybe we have) which is currently sitting at Orange - Significant Risk Of Terrorist Attacks. Isn't that a bit vague for a country of 300m people and an area of 3.5m sq/miles? Why do the U.S.A do this to their people? I think it is just to scare the living sh!te out of them.
Illegal immigrants would continue to flood in, organised crime would continue, politicians would make more money and we'd all still be skint.

Terrorism is spun from governments to keep the nation subserviant and gives them carte blanche
