Lanark & New Lanark

The remains of the auction market. The rest of it was cleared and has been transformed into a shopping outlet.

Gateway to the Lady Hozier Convalescent Home. I believe this was a convalescent home for soldiers.

Ruins of St. Kentigern's Church. Strange emblems. I haven't checked to see what the significance of these are but I've never seen, or noticed, a skull carved on any other churches.

My partner and I had a wee day out to New Lanark on Sunday. I hadn't been there since 2001 when I bought old coins at a fare, but the place has changed for the better. Nice wee ride through 'Annie's Ghost Story,' a walk around Scotland's largest roof garden, a gander at the mills and a wee hot chocolate in the mill pantry/cafe. The admission prices were a bit steep and we seen next to no wildlife (I usually see foxes, squirrels, ducks and voles just putting the bins out) unless you count wood pigeons and crows! We also dined in the Mill Hotel which is a must do activity - FANTASTIC food that is a culinary sensation! Only downer being that the plates are huge and the mains are the size of starters...

The mannequins were a tad creepy -- mind you so would I be if I were chained up all day!!

Nice set, T'was thinking of taking some night shots there
Hawick_1987

I'd love to see some night pics there - great setting especially the old graveyard

My camera is clearly not cut out for such a task!

Being a World Heritage Site i'd expected a bit more. The whole experience was decidedly underwhelming as the staff (although friendly) were not particularly knowledgeable about the area, the display information did not bely the true conditions of the mills and the preservation of the site was poor (two rows of houses and several buildings lie disused whilst the lade and waterwheel provide little if any electricity to what could be a potential goldmine for green energy).
cybers

The site does not lend itself easily to the night shot as they kind of turn the lights out after real dark. and lightpainting with flashlights was always in my mind as something to do it would no doubt attract the police who would only spoil a long long exposure with flashing lights and big shiny size 9's

the train was late hawick_1987 or did u just miss it
