Lilybank Boilerworks

Hello folks, I`m wondering if any of you can help me with some information I am looking for. I would like to hear from anyone who worked or who could put me in touch with anyone who worked at the lilybank boilers factory in the early seventies. It was also known as Thompsons, Wilsons and Clarke Chapmans throughout the years. I am specifically interested in asbestos being used in the place as my dad whose name was John Curran worked there from 1972 till 1974 and has since passed from a disease directly caused by asbestos exposure. Having looked at my dads work history we are pretty sure he would have been exposed to asbestos here but need information from people who would have been employed here. Another place he was exposed to asbestos was while working for Taylor Woodrow around 1976 - 77 in the former Littlewoods store in Argyle Street in glasgow, again if anyone worked or knows anyone who worked here during this time I would be interested in hearing from you.It doesnt matter if any of you did work there and don`t` know who my dad was as the info I need is more to do with what was happening in the workplace with asbestos. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I personally didn`t work in any of those places, but its fair to assume that most folk between the late 60`s and early 80`s were exposed to asbestos of some sort, some guys I knew in the 70`s were up to their knees shoveling this stuff, but in those days it was the norm.
I done loads of work with asbestos blissfully unaware of the consequences, but so far have had no ill effects thankfully.
Good luck finding anything on this as it was mostly brushed under the carpet due to lack of legislation.

I worked for them and they have a client base of ex workers. These men may have worked with your father. I wish you the best of luck.

I used to install their boilers and in latter years remove them for replacement. They are now located in Cochran UK, Newbie Works, Annan, Dumfries & Galloway DG12 5QU

I don't hold up much hope of them passing on information as when I used to contact them for information regarding asbestos content on the old boilers they said that they couldn't help me. Asbestos was mostly used on gaskets and door seals.
