Linwood

One of these places you try and avoid passing through but they're demolishing a lot there just now.

Clippens Road

Former Mount Royale Hotel. This was latterly a hostel, until a couple of months ago, for homeless men and might still be (unofficially) judging by the intact windows. Anyone know when the hotel closed and the history of it as it seems like a strange place for a hotel? It looks like its more modern vintage than the surrounding houses.

Is it Linwood? The land was when it was the car factory. Showcase Cinema.

Mahdi, It was called something else before the Mount Royale, but can't remember what.

Asked a few guys at work. It used to be called The Pheasant.

Thanks Doog Doog

The Golden Pheasant

They had a team in a local pool league I played in years ago which also included several other Linwood nitespots. The town's a dump but not the worst place in the world I would say. Nowhere near as bammy as Johnstone

Now demolished after being set alight on Nov 5th. Surprised it lasted that long.

Must've been a good bit of entertainment for the locals watching this go up in smoke, Doog Doog.

It is going to be an old folks care home when its rebuilt.  Cheers

The Golden Pheasant locally known as the mucky duck. During the 70's was probably the most used bar in linwood. in the late 80's early 90's? it turned into a homeless centre before being flattened in 2010. as yet nothing has been built on the ground.

Apologies for the two year thread bump but we have just launched a page on the A737 Johnstone - Howwood Bypass and it has some rather lovely old 90s aerial images of Linwood and the ground before the Phoenix retail park was built. It's mainly a road's related page but if your also into that thing it will be a bonus.

Here's the link: http://www.glasgows-motorways.co.uk/a737/4583217177

If you require me to post the photos separately on here then I can do that too. Enjoy!
