Need advice on scanning transparencies

Right,I've got some interesting Glasgow railway stuff
on colour slides. However,I can't seem to get useable results when they are scanned and enlarged. They look like a project by Picasso.Any ideas
on how to get them to a decent size without pixellating?
Thanks in advance.

Doogs the problem won't be with the slides it'll probably be the resolution you've set the scanner. All depends what you want  to do with them if it's just a quick photo to post on the net all you'll need is a reasonable jpeg scan.  If your seriously archiving you want a resolution of at least 300dpi if it can handle it and 600dpi and you'll be into CSI territory... the more the merrier at the expense of file size. A 56 meg .tif should have plenty of detail although expect to deal with 100meg+  tif files if resolution and detail is important.

Are you using a proper 35mm film scanner or is it one of those slide hoods you fit over a normal A4 flatbed scanner? They're pretty sh!te most of the time to be honest.

Its a Dell all-in-one printer/scanner.I'll need to look at the setup later.
I was wanting to scan then upload via photobucket. Thanks for your advice.

Slide Scanner

Hi Doog Doog,I bought a Digital Negative and Film Scanner from Gizoo
for just under 50 .The results I found to be really good and using the editing
tools was able to remove blemishes easily.Hope this helps.

Thanks for that,Mr U.
Found the settings for the scanner,so I'll try that first.
