First of all, thanks for the nostalgia! I just stumbled on this board and the photographs from the 70's are great. I lived in Glasgow in the seventies and I remember Lauders well - in act I was barred from there for some reason for a while while I worked next door in the Pavilion Theatre. Atholl Arms was the other local at the time and I see it has not changed much. I remember Curlers in Byres Road - it sucked as far as I was concerned, but it was often busy. There was a dive kind of a bar behind the Citz in Gorbals we used to go to, but I forget the name. It was in an old tenement.
Later on, I even designed a couple of pubs...The Granary in Pollokshaws Road was one and the other was Smiths (now Vronis) in West Nile Street. I think...Neither has changed much since then.
You've a fine forum here...

This pub in London road started life as the Volunteer Arms in 1892 changing its name to the Oxford then Waxy s Dargle, named after Dublin cobblers called Waxys who went for a day out on picnics to the River Dargle .

The Lamppost pub at 33 Duke Street has now been demolished. It closed in January, but does anyone know when it opened? BeerInTheEvening.com rated it a 2.5/10 saying: "No atmosphere...the customers appeared to be cardboard cutouts."

Mani they used to talk of that when i was in there as a fluffy faced kid learning how to drink .... Used to get sent from here to the bookies that used to be across the road from the side entrance to collect winnings of the auld guys who propped up the bar... I was thinking about this the day and how the bold boy in the bookies would walk along a raised platform changing the odds on the blackboard you could hardly see for the smoke... but for the life of me canny mind the bookies name.
