Glasgow Buildings - Cowcaddens

This is the place I spent the first 7 years of my life. I have fond memories of Cowcaddens.

On a recent wander I thought I would be able to solve a couple of mysteries.

First

Where was my old house? For many years the area was a vacant site but recently new flats where build on the site.

Unfortunately it is not now possible to show an exact before and after photo of the old Ozalid Building. But you will find an image on the Virtual Mitchell to compare with how it looks today.

Then there was the exact location of my former Primary School, Milton Street School.

This is as close as I can get it.

Although we knew it as Milton Street School the entrance was on Dunblane Street.

Other buildings of interest in Cowcaddens

The Station Bar

The Station Bar on Port Dundas Road is a great place for a quiet drink.

Frequented by many Partick Thistle fans it has a great atmosphre and the beer is great.

Tram yin, sorry

Cowcaddens horse tram depot in Cambridge Street (photographed a short time before it was demolished in the 1960's).
The very first Glasgow tram ran from here on Monday, August the 19th, 1872.

The same site today. Could do with a wee plaque.

Great pics folks nice to see a glimpse of blue sky.

GK: That pic of Renfrew St at Cambridge St is excellent what a difference over the years

Incidentally I spent many months in that Hi Rise building above the former Kensitas catalogue shop now Mandors that's since been turned into flats. I was doing a business studies and accountancy course. Yup! it was as boring as fuk and I never became an accountant in the end

Should have stuck your head in Stage Door of the Royal and seen if I was working, Alex, I could maybe have snuck you up onto the roof for a few aerial pics!

Note that one of the flagpoles on the Theatre has been missing for about 6 months now, since it was damaged one stormy night. Not sure why they're taking so long to replace it.

I wish I had Gap that would have been good. Next time I am up that way I will chap the door to see if you are there.

Which hopefully won't be to long
