Strathclyde Police - Day of ActionI read with interest that Strathclyde Police are having a day of action today. I eagerly read on expecting to hear about their plans to get out and deal with crime in the city.
I was a bit disappointed to discover that it is only targeted at motorists speeding, using mobile phones etc.
Not I am not trying to suggest that motoring offences should not be dealt with but I think that perhaps they could have focused on crimes which might involve a bit of effort to deal with.

On the plus side it'll take the heat off of amateur photographers going about their business whilst their attentions are focused elsewhere

Speeding and seat belts..... the easy targets when it comes to driving. What about the other rules of the road like indicating, lane discipline, fog lights?

Both yesterday and Tuesday they were doing a blitz of cars parked in bus stops. I drive my bus past the shipyard at Elder Park at 10am and both days there were eight '911' recovery trucks towing away vehicles.

Is that really a police matter? I'd have thought that was a council problem

That crossed my mind too, but it seemed to be the Polis who were orchestrating it.

Parking is attrocious in and around the yard at Govan......Staff were told before the action took place directly that parking in the bus stops and on the zig-zags was not allowed and that their cars would be towed.
It's their own fault if they have no common sense and won't take a warning, they were also told that it would be happening all week but still continue to park badly and drive like loonies when it's time to go home so I've no sympathy for any of them.
Supposedly it is local residents who are upset by bad examples of parking and the dangers drivers cause when the yard empties especially on a Friday as the gates open at the same time the local primary kids are out for their lunch so maybe that's why the police have become involved in it.
