Old Soho Street

Hello

I am new to this very interesting site. I am looking for information on
Soho street as it once was. My Mother was born there and My Grandfather
had a place there for his horse business. I understand Soho street is now gone so I would appreciate knowing what has replaced it.

I am planning a trip to Scotland this summer and hope to visit some of
Moms old haunts. Unfortunately I did not get detailed information before
she passed on.

She was born in 1916 and came to Canada as a war bride in 1946.

If anyone has any photos to share that would be wonderful.

Regards

Well, you could get a good idea of the layout from the following link.  Check the left/right slider on the top left of the map.  Soho Street should be pretty much in the middle.  It ran between Gallowgate and Fordneuk Street.  Fordneuk Street is still there (still has cobbles at the end!) and the car entrance to St Mungo's Academy would roughly have been where Soho Street began.

Vinny...Soho street ran between Gallowgate-Crownpoint road

Sorry, I'll clarify that!  Yes, it did run between Gallowgate and Crownpoint, but Fordneuk was a sort of continuation of Soho to the south!

Soho st, from the Crownpoint st corner  facing Templetons ,had a wee shop on the left, pub on the right.....had the fire station,   council housing from the 30s, a swingpark, a book shop and a sort of farm with ducks or geese and horses. at the very top was a grocers on the corner to the left and bank to the right...  It also had a blue police box near the swingpark..
