Our Glasgow Water

It was said it used to be the best in the World. not now.. Ive been noticing a strong smell of bleach from my tap water for ages, but never drink the stuff, only drink bottled water.. but last week I filled a Highland Spring emty bottle from the tap to water plants, but forgot all about it and shoved it in the fridge. Later I drank some and my lips went all tingly, and I took a sore throat.. now this was just a sip and I spat most of it out.. I sent for the water board and a man came out with a test kit.. he meausred it and said it was only 3.4. which means nothing to me.. he explained about the cleaning processes with all the EU regulations that they have to follow. and said if I put it into bottles and stored it for a few hours that the smell would leave.. I asked him to have a go at drinking it, he pretended not to hear me . still giving me the tale of how we need chlorine in the water to clean off germs.. I OK to that but asked why my son and daughter dont have that smell from their tap waters... he couldnt really answer me.. even though the both live in other parts of Glasgow... I told him how it had caused the burning sensation in my mouth and asked him again to drink some.... not on your nellie.. he did smell it and said with his eyes on the ceiling that aye there was a slight smell , said not worth doing any more tests unless in a week or so IM not happy..... Funny thing is that a large van from the Water Board was outisde my house the next day and two men were checking drains... Has anyone else got tap water they cant or wont drink because of this horrible taste and smell in Glasgow...

Never had a problem with the water here except for the odd pressure drop (thats due to old tenement plumbing)

Never had a problem with the water here in Yoker, drink quite a lot of the stuff and never had any ill effects.

theres a lot of road works around Bridgeton and Dalmarnock at the moment Im wondering if it has something to do with that..new drains being put down two streets away..

Sounds like you might have picked up some mains flush though they will never admit to it entering the supply.
3.4 i assume would be the PH level but surely water should be PH neutral
Stuball

offt, 3.4 would likely kill you

Never had a problem with the Glasgow water supply. Much prefer to drink tap water than pay for bottled tap water.

In this case Alex, I dont mind paying..

Sometimes I get it,but goes away if you run the tap for a minute.
