Partick Central Railway- The Lost tunnelIt's been well hidden for over 30 years buried under the former Clydeside Expressway. But with all the redevelopment in that area it has been exposed for that last time before it's filled in for good.
It was never a tunnel just a deep open air cutting which linked up with Partick Central Station on the banks of the River Kelvin.
It was capped over with concrete floor slabs to carry the expressway with a view to reopening the rail line at some point in the future...
well we've arrived in the future and narrow minded developers think it prudent to filll it in any without regard for future transport schemes be it road or rail
Partick Central was the scene of much controversy over illegal demolition of the Station Booking office in 2007 and the hugely unpopular TESCO development which hopefully won't ever materialise on this site.

Great pics, Fjord.
Really interesting to see that section as I never got down there to have a look
behind the car garage that was there. Shame it's just being thoughtlessly
destroyed. You can see the concrete cover that was thrown over it back in the
60s or 70s when the Expressway was built.

Looking up the tunnel towards the shored up wall, beyond this is Partick Central.
*Note the original roof constuction which can also be found in the Botanic Gardens station

There was a single track still in there up until 1978 - I though we might've seen
some signs of that, but obviously not.

I've seen the same pics in the Mitchell Library taken during the expressway construction and it shows clearly a single line railway as well as the concrete slabs being placed over the cutting.
There's still signs of where the railway sleeper's were still visible for that bit of track, I didn't get a pic of them as I had no tripod only a pishy point and shoot camera.

With all the history at the riverfront site, and the rebuilding, there's surely quite a decent sized forum project to be had.
For example, who used the own the red & white brick building still on site, and will it be staying ?
Just thought i'd post these again. Oldies, but goodies

Do you mean Scotway House?
I believe that is listed and staying but they were wanting to move it.
