Penilee Regeneration

Demolition of the Penilee Shops thanks to Tvdel for sharing his photos

Alex Glass

If anyone had photos of Penilee it would be good to see how it has changed over the years.

Remember the Community Centre??

Just sent a link to the thread to a woman who was from Penilee to see if she wanted to join in and share her memories of growing up in the area. Hopefully it will trigger a response from her or her sisters.

I had my Hercules New Yorker Bike stolen from outside Riddicks Newsagent in 1960.. Would anyone with any information please contact the police on 999.. I'd like to get my wee bike back. My brother was riding it at the time..lol The girls at Galbraiths felt sorry for me and give me a penny worth of broken biscuits.  for free...

Sorry..I have no recollection about that. I lived in Penilee Terrace. The only "death" I can remember was a girl  run over by a No17 bus just outside Penilee Secondary School(Demolished).

Does your father remember the shops that were there at the time. I can remember(from left to right) A dairy, Co-op, Riddicks News, Galbraiths, Butcher and last was the Post Office. It looks like the car has done way with local shops AND Schools.
