Photography of Oscar Marzaroli - Mitchell Library, 24 April

The Photography of Oscar Marzaroli - Thursday 24 April 2008 at 6 pm, The
Mitchell Library, North Street, Glasgow.

In conjunction with the Scottish Society on the History of Photography - the
third annual Annan Lecture will take place in the Jeffrey Library at the Mitchell
and will address the life, works and importance of Glasgow photographer
Oscar Marzaroli.

The writer William McIlvanney , and David Bruce , photographic historian
and a former colleague of Marzaroli's at Templar Film Studios, discuss
Oscar's achievement and legacy, and celebrate a great character.

Ray McKenzie , Senior Lecturer in Art History at the Glasgow School of Art,
introduces the work of Marzaroli, which is of special significance to
Scotland's - and particularly Glasgow's - culture.

Oscar Marzaroli, (1933-88) was an Italian born photographer and film-maker
who worked as a freelance journalist in Europe before returning to Glasgow,
where, in 1967, he co-founded Ogam Films. It was however his photography
of Scotland and in particular Glasgow and its people engaged in their everyday
lives for which he is mainly remembered.

This is an illustrated discussion on the life and work of one of Scotland’s
most important contemporary artists and is a free event.
