Provands LordshipStanding opposite Glasgow Cathedral, Provand's Lordship is the oldest surviving house in Glasgow. It was built in 1471 in the reign of King James III, by Bishop Andrew Muirhead as the Preceptor's House of the Hospital of St Nicholas. His coat of arms can be seen on the southern wall of the house. Later, in the 19th century, it became the manse of the Prebendary of Balernock. He was also the Lord of Provand (now Provan, a district of Glasgow), hence the name "Provand's Lordship" which dates from that time.

From the book "Central Glasgow - An Illustrated Architectural Guide" by Charles McKean, David Walker & Frank Walker.
Provand's Lordship, 1471; rear later
Steep-roofed, corbie-gabled, three-storeyed stone manse with dormer windows and armorial panels typical of the dwellings of Glasgow's great ecclesiastics. Shortened, shorn of its original chimney stacks, dormer windows and somehow diminished by its lowered roof, it remains nonetheless large and imposing for a non-aristocratic Scots medieval town house.

What I love most is that you may harvest ( in modest quantities, of course ) the medicinal herbs in the garden. There is even a book or binder that you may borrow to take outside, so that you know where and what to look for.Amazing.
